Drivers transport goods and materials or provide transportation for clients (e.g., bus driver, rideshare driver, chauffeur). Driver duties and responsibilities typically include operating a wide variety of vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, keeping accurate mileage records, maintaining the safety of vehicles and obeying traffic laws.

When hiring a driver, look for the ability to make quick decisions and experience driving different types of vehicles. For example, it may be helpful if they know how to connect/disconnect a cab from a trailer and what to do when going up or down a steep grade. Great candidates for your driver position may also have basic automotive repair skills and familiarity with the area they’ll be driving in.
