    R. Scott Schieffer, P.C. is a Dallas-based CPA firm seeking interns for August 2022 - December 2022 to assist in the firm's growing tax return practice. The firm serves clients in a broad range of industries, including medicine, energy, real estate, law and investments. The prospective intern will assist in all aspects of tax planning and compliance, including the following:
  • Preparation of federal income returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations and trusts;
  • Preparation of state income and franchise tax returns in Texas, Oregon, California, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and other states as client needs dictate;
  • Preparation of Treasury Department reports of foreign bank accounts;
  • Research tax issues as client needs dictate;
  • Tax planning and structuring for new businesses; and
  • Managing client relationships including business development meetings, tax return meetings, correspondence and billing.

    The internship would begin as soon as August 15, 2022 and conclude December 2022 with the opportunity to extend into spring 2023 based on performance. The hours will be flexible around the intern's schedule with a work week of approximately 15-25 hours expected. In addition to his CPA practice, the firm's owner, Scott Schieffer, is a tax and estate planning attorney focusing on business formation, Wills, Trusts, and probate. The prospective intern would have the opportunity to work on legal projects, if he or she were interested.

    Compensation will be competitive based on the intern's experience and interview process and the market rates of similar CPA firms.

  • Strong financial accounting knowledge.
  • Minimum GPA 3.4 overall.
  • Ability to deeply understand tax software computer programs and other technology tools quickly.
