Life Coach duties and responsibilities

Life Coaches can help clients with a wide range of concerns and objectives, including career aspirations, relationship goals and personal fulfillment. A typical consultation might start with pinpointing a specific objective and then move on to a discussion of the client’s strengths, weaknesses and skills pertaining to that objective. It’s then the Life Coach’s job to assist in developing a strategy to help the client get from point A to point B.

Determination Coach Job Description



Primary Function

Determination Coach (DC) will work alongside an individual with developmental disabilities (client) to achieve a better quality of life by providing individualized coaching and support. DC will engage with client helping to develop and enhance life skills that promote independent living.

Responsibilities

1. Become familiar with client by building a trusting relationship, getting to know their circle of support and thoroughly reviewing her Person-Centered Plan.

2. Provide guidance, mentorship and support to client to help her stay on track and achieve her desired outcomes.

3. Create activities and initiatives to encourage client engagement and build her skills.

4. Role model desired outcomes and provide guidance and instruction in areas of need.

5. Regularly check in with client and support team to discuss progress on action plan. Review benchmarks, celebrate wins or suggest alternative strategies, as needed.



Qualifications

- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or other developmental challenges.

- Knowledge of independent living and social skill development and strategies to support individuals in developing and maintaining these skills.

- Familiarity with coaching techniques and evidence-based interventions.

- Strong interpersonal/communication skills to establish rapport with client and her circle of support.

- Ability to collaborate and work well with others to achieve a common goal.

- Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to support client in her personal growth.

- Ability to pass a background check

- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License, reliable vehicle and auto insurance.

Essential Responsibilities/Job Duties:

Our Life Coaches work in our clients’ homes with 1-2 clients per home.

Our Life Coaches are an intricate part of our clients’ productive daily living. As a responsible Life Coach, you will take clients into the community for various activities. Too, you are responsible for medication passes, documentation of services provided, daily completion of shift logs, receipt tracking and ledgers, performing home functions, preparing meals, updating grocery lists and accompany client(s) to scheduled appointments, recreational and preferred activities as needed. Our clients may require support in personal care tasks including but not limited to personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, grooming, feeding, ambulation, medical monitoring, and other health care related tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

- 18 years of age or older



- High school degree/GED required



- NO Previous Experience Required. WE WILL TRAIN YOU!



- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel



- Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time



- Must maintain state regulatory certifications & training, as required by state/program requirements (Vantage provides all trainings)



-Medication Administration as required by state/program requirements



- Criminal history and background check



- CPR & First Aid (provided)

While there are no formal education requirements for this role, Life Coach job descriptions commonly ask for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, often in a field like social sciences, psychology or business. Some coaches have master’s degrees, especially if they intend to coach high-profile clients looking to reach the top of their field.
