The Job:

This position is responsible for managing the agency s financial and accounting systems and providing leadership in areas such as strategic finance operations, contract fulfillment, donor stewardship, facilities and risk management. We provide hands-on job training and create economic opportunities for youth, beginner BIPOC farmers, and men who are at high risk for gun violence. Our aim is to provide jobs while working to mitigate food insecurity and limited access to affordable, culturally-affirming, and nutritionally-dense food. Our team cultivates eight urban farms on 11 acres of land, predominantly located on Chicago's South Side. These farms are production-oriented but also offer opportunities for staff-led education, training, and leadership development. Our produce is available at farmers' markets, in our Collective Supported Agriculture program, and at the Fresh Moves Mobile Market. Position Summary The Director of Finance & Accounting is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing research and analysis, maintaining the general ledger, performing account reconciliations, assisting with audit preparations, and carrying out other accounting duties as may be required. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Analyze and present accurate financial data for multiple audiences in a timely manner, collating financial reporting materials for different stakeholders and clearly communicating to all different segments of the organization
• Direct the accounting and related support departments necessary to maintain proper controls.
• Ensure proper revenue recognition and accounting in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and bank activities, organizational cash flow, and forecasting.
• Build efficient systems for financial data to be shared with relevant staff members for grants accounting, development reconciliation, etc.
• Implement a robust contracts and grants management reporting system, ensuring all reporting requirements are met. The team has the information to create new project budgets based on excellent guidance from the finance team.
• Prepare and communicate monthly financial information and key metrics for Executive Directors and the Board of Directors.
• Mitigate potential financial risks to Urban Growers Collective.
• Manage annual audits as liaison with external accountants.
• Review financial aspects of proposals and contracts.
• Assist with annual budget and projected budgets for Urban Growers Collective.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-through skills;
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries in working with co-workers and teens;
• Ability to think critically and creatively;
• Willingness to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment, but have the ability to work unsupervised to complete the job;
• Experience with project and grants management and grants accounting.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills to support and enable sound decision making.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• A history of developing effective teams and influencing others toward shared goals and outcomes.
• Commitment to excellence in all communication to stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience optimizing and utilizing Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Office and technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations.
• Basic familiarity with Google Workspace & GSuite, and/or willingness to learn;
• 7-10 years of professional experience required, accounting experience preferred.
